Digital Story

Nabrissa Alves
Digital Story Reflection
12/21/10

The assignment was to create a digital story on a topic of your choice using iMovie. To have a complete and proficient project, the requirements were that at least six or more photos needed to be included, and it had to be one minute long.  After being introduced to the tools and functions of iMovie, our first task was to complete a brainstorming handout. There we took note of the possible topics of our story. After choosing one, we wrote our script.
After much time and thought I put into my brainstorming, I decided to make my digital story about the relationship between my little sister Aisha and her best cousin Leniandra. Most of the images were taken from a camera. Because I did not have the certain picture I needed, only one photo in my story was taken from the internet. Almost all of the pictures I chose were of Leniandra and Aisha together since that is what my story is about. All of my images match what im talking about.
I chose this story because it was the strongest of my ideas. I have many pictures on this topic and simply because I thought it was really cute. This story is significant to me because Aisha and Leniandra are two important people in my life and the story of their friendship to me is amazing. I really liked creating a story on them.
Overall, I think I did fairly well on this project although I believe with more time it could have been a lot better. I followed all the requirements. Because this was the first time I had ever used iMovie, at first I was lost and didn’t know how to use some of the tools but after some time, I learned. I think iMovie is isn’t really difficult after you know how to use the tools.
I have had a great experience this year in Digital Media class. I’ve learned so much about computers and art togehther. I know that the Photoshop and iMovie programs and the things I learned from them will stay with me throughout my life because I can use these programs for many different projects.

Photographic Truth

Nabrissa Alves
Photographic Truth Reflection

The objective of this assignment was to create an accordion book consisting of six photos of an event from history or before the day the project was assigned. The event could have been a major one or one simply of a recent pop culture event. Each photo had to be related to the topic. The overall goal was to use Adobe Photoshop to put yourself into the picture – making the photo appear as true and original as possible. This reflects the title of the project: “Photographic Truth”. To create our books, first six pictures online to put ourselves into. We then began altering the photos.
My book followed the requirements of the project. Each photo clearly related to the main theme. Most of the photos I found online were without color so I decided to make my entire book black and white. My main focus when choosing the pictures to alter was to choose ones with many people so I wouldn’t be easy to find and could make blending in easier. To add myself to the images, I tried to position in a way that was similar to everyone else’s in the photo, so I wouldn’t stand out. I often used the blur filter, brightness/contrast and texture tools to alter the look of me.
The theme of my book is The Titanic. I knew originally that I wanted my theme to be in sequence order. I chose this event because I knew I could find images of the order in which this event happened. Because I didn’t really want to change the meaning of the images, my presence doesn’t change anything about the pictures. My focus was simply to add myself into it looking as true as possible.
I really liked this assignment. I learned of a lot more tools of Photoshop that I didn’t know of in earlier projects. I found this project the easiest of our Photoshop assignments because I could use all the new tools I learned from those project into this one.

Lyrical Triptych

Our assignment was to create a triptych using lyrics instead of art. First, we had to choose a song – one whose lyrics could be represented through a picture. After the project was thoroughly explained, we went on to finding pictures online that related to our lyrics and began creating our triptychs. Several weeks were dedicated to this project.
The song I chose is “ I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. My finished work looks very

calm and simple. There aren’t any parts that are really distinct or grab your attention. I used

tools such as the opacity and the blur filter to make the images create a calm and warm feeling.

I used soft colors and a small and easy font to interpret this.
Adobe Photoshop is slightly difficult for someone like me. I am very bad with computers but this being our second project using Photoshop, I do feel a little more comfortable with the tools and I learned how to do much more things than the first time.
I believe I did do well in creating my triptych. It came out really close to what I originally wanted it to look like and I believe it successfully created the mood it was intended to. If I were to do this project again I would take more time brainstorming my ideas to really know what I wanted to put in the triptych because that is what stood as an obstacle creating this project.

magazineNA

                                                    Magazine Cover Design Reflection

The purpose of this project is to create your own magazine cover. To start off we completed a worksheet that gathered and organized our ideas on what we wanted our cover to look like, to say etc. Then, we familiarized ourselves with the tools and functions of Photoshop. After this, we began working on our magazine.
My magazine is similar to a medicine/health magazine. I chose a hospital corridor as the background because its very relatable to my topic. The title of it is Medicine. It includes headlines you would find in health magazines such as “ 100 Tips to Staying Healthy” or “Tylenol doses should be reduced to prevent Liver risk”. It isn’t too colorful and it includes a picture of myself from my waist above in the middle of the page.
Since I would like to pursue a career in the medical field, I tried to communicate a cover representing just that. The headlines and background helped communicate this meaning.

I believe my finished piece is successful. I think so because I lack skill with computers and am

very new to projects like this. Although I could improve on the creativity area of my magazine, I believe

I did well for my first time .
